Event details:
- Time/date: 3 -10 June 2021
- Format: Virtual talks with a dialogue, plenaries and one-hour health talks
Background:
Against the background of the World Health Assembly, and in contribution to the Food Systems Summit, WHO is opening a space for “Health talks” as an engaging opportunity to increase the awareness of
people how food systems and health are linked, and why food systems transformation is necessary to achieve health and well-being for all. The week will be ‘kicked off’ with an high-level Independent UN Food Systems Summit Dialogue,
‘Healthy Food Systems: For people, planet and prosperity.’
It is expected that these health talks will contribute and encourage Food Systems Summit actors to continue to be actively involved in the preparatory process
towards the summit and work towards better integration of health elements in their work, by encouraging Member States and partners to organize national and/or independent food systems dialogues with health at the centre.
In the year
of the UN Food Systems Summit, this dialogue and the health talks aim to convene experts and actors from across the health and food communities to explore how a new narrative
about health and food systems can be used to stimulate action and commitments, from policies to investments, that deliver better health outcomes for people, animals, and the planet.
Now, more than ever, a systemic narrative about food and health must be reflected in the language of intersecting and aligned global processes - such as the G7, G20, UNFSS, COP26, and Nutrition for Growth. The outcomes of this independent dialogue will
be submitted formally as an input to the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit.
