WHO, in collaboration with partners, will organize an event that will bring together young people from around the world who are passionate about addressing the interlinkages between climate change and human health. This meeting will support the youth constituents in formulating proposals on how to mainstream health and equity in the UNFCCC process to ensure ambitious climate commitments, and will promote global and local advocacy and capacity-building on health and climate change. It will involve prominent young activists, youth networks and NGOs from various countries, and will mobilize action for a healthy, green and climate-resilient recovery from COVID-19.
Some of the questions to be addressed are:
- What are practical solutions that we can implement to recover better from COVID-19, and at the same time drive ambitious climate action?
- How can climate commitments (e.g. Nationally Determined Contributions, Long-term Strategies) also ensure the health and well-being of current and future generations?
- How should health and equity be reflected in the UNFCCC process?
This event will result in creation of a practical set of youth recommendations and actions for a healthy and green recovery from COVID-19, based on the 6 Prescriptions and the Actionables of the WHO Manifesto for a healthy recovery and the joint letter for a healthy recovery from 40 million medical professionals. This set of youth recommendations will be presented at COP26 and the WHO Climate and Health Conference in November 2021.
