The past two years have exacted a terrible toll on health and care workers – from infections and deaths, lack of protection, and burnout, fatigue and other mental health issues due to the incredible demands made on these workers. From responding to COVID-19 to maintaining essential health services to rolling out new COVID-19 vaccines, an enormous burden has been placed on the health and care workforce that already was facing a significant shortfall in numbers, distribution and investment. We must re-ignite the motivation of health and care workers as part of our efforts to Protect. Invest. Together.
Sharath Jeevan is one of the world’s leading experts on intrinsic motivation and the author of the recent book “ Intrinsic: A Manifesto to Reignite Our Inner Drive In his book he examines the issues of motivation of our health workforce and how we can re-ignite the motivation of our health and care workers to prevent “the great resignation” and to develop more motivating careers and better long-term care for patients.
Sharath will share his thoughts on how we can re-kindle the core motivation pillars of Purpose, Autonomy and Mastery in the health workforce. He will explain how we can embed these concepts into the enabling cultures of our health organizations at all levels. This intervention may not require much investment, but it requires courage and leadership.
Sharath’s opening comments will be followed by a discussion with Jim Campbell, and then an open Q&A. Audience participation in this event is invited throughout the session.
