WHO Global Health Facilities Database (GHFD) launch as part of this year’s UN Statistical Commission

10 March 2022 15:00 – 16:30 CET

WHO is pleased to announce the launch of the WHO Global Health Facilities Database (GHFD) initiative (now called the Geolocated Health Facilities Data initiative to reflect the full scope of this effort) as part of this year’s UN Statistical Commission on 10 March at 0900 EST | 1500 CET.

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored urgent gaps in our knowledge of where health facilities are located. By serving as a standardized, open and central repository of health facility information, the GHFD will provide critical insights that ensure every person in every community knows where to go for care and ensure we are better prepared for future health emergencies.

As a standardized, open, and central repository of health facility master lists, the aim of the GHFD is to strengthen the technical capacity of Ministries of Health at all levels to ensure the availability, accessibility, and quality of health facility information. This includes the health facility name, location, and type while assigning each a unique code.

By leveraging the power of geospatial data to map health facility locations, the GHFD will support equitable access to essential services and promote efforts to increase universal health coverage and get back on track towards WHO’s triple billion targets and the Sustainable Development Goals.

We hope you will join us for this timely and important discussion to ensure everyone, everywhere can access the care they need.
