The Global Database on Blood Safety (GDBS) has been an invaluable tool for assessing the global situation on blood safety and obtaining the best available information on blood transfusion services in WHO Member States. At national level, information on the availability, safety, distribution, and accessibility of blood products is essential for strategic planning and the accountability of national blood programme. Support the development of data and information management for Blood and Transfusion Safety is key to the development and strengthening of a nationally coordinated blood system in countries and to ensuring the availability and quality of data in Member States for reporting to WHO GDBS.
