The best of both: creating gender equity in nursing and midwifery leadership

11 October 2022 15:00 – 16:15 CET

Women comprise almost 70% of health-care workers globally and nearly 90% of the nursing and midwifery workforce. However, it is estimated that they hold only around 25% of leadership roles in health. The gender gap in global health, particularly in leadership positions, is a topic that both genders need to be involved in resolving. This pervasive leadership gap between women and men in health can only be closed by addressing systemic barriers to women’s advancement.

To discuss this important topic, the WHO Nursing Midwifery Global Community of Practice is hosting a webinar during which the roles leaders can play in addressing gender inequity in health leadership will be discussed. Speakers include Dr Roopa Dhatt, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Women in Global Health; Carlos Valli, Nursing Advisor at the Ministry of Health, Uruguay; and Katherine Hay, Distinguished Fellow in Gender Equity and Health, and Senior Strategy advisor at the University of California in San Diego. They will talk about their leadership experience and skills, focusing on skills for global leadership, how to be a national leader and early career leadership.

The session will be broadcast in English with simultaneous translation into French and Spanish.
