WHO's Health Financing Team organized a Global Learning Event on 10 November 2022 to provide a deeper understanding of financing facilities directly.
Financing facilities directly transforms the way in which health facilities receive, manage, and account for funds to deliver health services. This approach has generated strong interest from countries and development partners in recent years as a mechanism to empower health-service providers and contribute to expanding coverage.
To gain a deeper understanding of financing facilities directly, the WHO Global Learning Event brought together key experts and country representatives to discuss the fundamentals of the approach and the main considerations for its successful implementation. They shared their experiences, with an in-depth focus on countries where implementation has been most advanced such as Tanzania.
The event report summarises the proceedings in greater detail and highlights the learnings from the Global Learning Event.
WHO work
The Global Learning Event on financing facilities directly was organized as part of the Montreux collaborative agenda on fiscal space, public financial management and health financing. This work builds on a joint WHO and World Bank briefing entitled Direct Facility Financing: concept and role for UHC, which sets out the guiding principles for financing facilities directly.
