The WHO has prioritized the development of Donor Human Milk Banking Guidelines in 2022-23. A Guideline Development Group (GDG) has been assembled in line with WHO guidelines development policies. The GDG will review available evidence and advise the WHO on development of guidelines for establishing and implementing safe and quality human milk banking systems. These guidelines will include minimum standards for safety and quality of donor human milk and/or considerations across the human milk donor, recipient, and product pathways, aligned with guidance for protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding. The first meeting of this GDG will engage in a consensus-building process to establish PICO questions that can be addressed by systematic reviews and inform subsequent phases in the guidelines development process.
To define the scope of the WHO Guidelines on Donor Human Milk Banking (DHMB) and develop PICO questions to be included in the guidelines, WHO will be convening virtually the first Guideline Development Group on DHMB from 12 to 14 December (2:00-5:00pm, CET)
