Stakeholders’ meeting for the Development of a Strategic Plan for the Elimination of Visceral Leishmaniasis in East Africa

24 – 27 January 2023
Mövenpick Hotel and Residences, Nairobi, Kenya

Key stakeholders will convene to review the current epidemiological situation of visceral leishmaniasis in East Africa, and draft a high-level elimination strategic plan 2023-2027, with regional and country-level elimination targets. They will also discuss how to ensure long-term and sustainable financing and the procurement of medical supplies for visceral leishmaniasis (first-line treatment/medicines and diagnostics). Finally, stakeholders will draft a call for action on elimination of visceral leishmaniasis as a public health problem from the East African countries of the WHO African and Eastern Mediterranean Regions. The meeting will be attended by high-level representatives from WHO Member States (Chad, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda), global and African partners, and political organizations such as the African Union. WHO will be represented by delegates from headquarters, the Regional Office for Africa, the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean and six WHO country offices.

The meeting is convened by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the End Fund and other partners.
