Background
The World Health Organization is hosting the inaugural meeting of the WHO Youth Council. The Youth Council is a newly set up mechanism for meaningful youth engagement with the WHO and provides direct advice to the Director-General. Its members consist of international youth organizations that will meet for the first time in person in Geneva. The meeting will solidify the council’s working plans together with relevant WHO focal points including the Director-General and finalize its structure for the remainder of the council’s term.
Purpose of the meeting
To bring together the WHO Youth Council in person for the first time and finalize work plans, engagement with the WHO, and strategize on a roadmap for the way forward including through its working groups.
Objectives of the meeting
- To discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities to solidify the work of the Youth Council and its work plan for the remainder of the term.
- To establish modes of working and communications of the youth council
- To announce key priorities of the youth council moving forward.
- To integrate and mainstream the work of the WHO Youth Council with WHO departments and partners.
Expected outcomes
The meeting is expected to produce a meeting report with key recommendations, to serve as a guidance document for the WHO Youth Council and upcoming meetings. Furthermore, the proceedings of the meeting will contribute to the modes of working, communications, and action plan for the WHO Youth Council.
