Using external assessments to improve laboratory capacities

20 September 2023 11:00 – 12:30 CET

In this webinar we discussed the use of external quality assessments to demonstrate functional testing capacities, to identify challenges in processes and procedure and improve the overall quality of testing for pathogens of epidemic and pandemic potential. We explored the use of traditional external quality assessment methods including proficiency testing and specimen rechecking programmes, as well as the use of more innovative methods such as simulation exercises to assess end-to-end laboratory processes. We heard from countries implementing or participating in these types of assessments and how these can be used to improve laboratory capacities.

We welcomed:

Mrs Lisa Stevens (WHO Headquarters)

Dr Lisa Carter (WHO Headquarters)

Dr Nivedita Gupta (Indian Council of Medical Research, India)
