Empower her: Spreading cervical cancer awareness among girls in Yobe State, Nigeria

17 November 2023
Yobe State, Nigeria

On 17 November, the Portrait of Lake Child Initiative is spreading awareness with a goal to reach adolescent girls across 10 senior secondary schools in Yobe State, Nigeria. Their advocacy campaign comes just weeks after Nigeria introduced the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine into its routine immunization programme. Through the programme, the country aims to vaccinate 7.7 million girls using a 1-dose schedule.

The Portrait of Lake Child Initiative is a civil society organization that aims to promote access and enrolment of all girls in primary through secondary education. In their efforts to empower girls, the initiative seeks to raise awareness within the community across issues including maternal and child health, and sexual and reproductive health.
