Interpretation will be provided in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish
Background
Promotion of breast-milk substitutes using unethical marketing practices continues throughout the world, but many countries are fighting back by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes (BMS) including subsequent relevant World Health Assembly (WHA) resolutions (collectively referred to as “the Code”).
This event will highlight the findings of the 2024 Code Status Report. The report describes the legal measures countries have in place to implement the Code and the processes they use to monitor and enforce compliance with those laws and ensure they are working. This year, the report shows how the baby milk industry attempts to weaken and delay the implementation of laws against unethical baby milk marketing. Come along to hear how countries can use the Code as a guide for developing and enforcing laws that protect mothers and babies from marketing that creates anxiety and make empty promises about infant feeding products.
The Global Breastfeeding Collective is a partnership of more than 20 prominent international agencies, including the World Health Organization and UNICEF, calling on donors, policymakers, philanthropists and civil society to increase investment in breastfeeding worldwide.
