Programme Managers’ Meeting for the Elimination of Visceral Leishmaniasis in Eastern Africa

11 – 13 June 2024
Radisson Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Representatives from Chad, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda, together with partners, academia, researchers, donors, and officials of the three levels of WHO (Africa Region, Eastern Mediterranean Region, and headquarters) will assemble and launch the Strategic Framework for the elimination of visceral leishmaniasis in eastern Africa, 2023-2030. The meeting will take place from 11-13 June, in Radisson Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Visceral leishmaniasis is a fatal and outbreak-prone neglected tropical disease. In 2019, the eastern African epidemiological sub-region surpassed other endemic geographies becoming the highest-burden focus of visceral leishmaniasis in the world. As of 2022, it contributed 66% of the global burden of the disease.
