On 24–27 September the WHO Global Neglected Tropical Diseases Programme will host a series of three meetings dedicated to strengthening global management, coordination and stewardship of donated neglected tropical disease (NTD) medicines.
Annually, pharmaceutical partners donate over two billion doses of medicines to more than 70 countries to control and eliminate NTDs. The World Health Organization (WHO) handles about 80% of these tablets and vials. Ensuring these medicines reach those in need is crucial to achieving the targets set out in the WHO 2030 NTD Road map.
Effective distribution, utilization and reporting of these medicines require leadership, innovation and collaboration from both public and private sector partners.
WHO is committed to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of NTD medicine distribution and use, by promoting transparency, accountability and collaboration among all stakeholders involved and throughout the supply chain and reporting mechanisms.
- 24 September: Global Coordination and Stewardship Committee 2024 Annual Hybrid Meeting
- 25 September: Supply Chain Technical Support Mechanism for NTD Programmes’ Project Progress Meeting
- 26–27 September: NTD Supply Chain Forum Hybrid Meeting
The meetings will be attended by representatives of national governments, pharmaceutical partners, nongovernmental organizations, funding donors and United Nations agencies, including UNICEF and WHO.
During the week, bilateral meetings will also take place between key participants and senior management of WHO.
