WHO Evidence-informed Policy Network (EVIPNet) and the International Vaccine Institute’s Regional AMR Data Analysis for Advocacy, Response, and Policy (RADAAR) project will hold a kick-off webinar on Thursday 10 October 2024. This webinar will introduce a new collaborative project supporting countries and increasing their capacity to translate reliable data and evidence on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) into effective national policies.
The webinar follows a fresh commitment by world leaders at the 79th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR to a set of actions and targets, including reducing the estimated 4.95 million human deaths associated with bacterial AMR annually by 10% by 2030. The political declaration reaffirms the importance of national ownership and calls for sustainable national financing to help at least 60% of countries to have funded national action plans on AMR by 2030.
“As a major threat to the prevention and treatment of a growing range of infections caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses, and fungi, tackling AMR is a critical global health priority. By improving national capacity to apply evidence, this project will contribute to ensuring health systems across the world are better equipped to face this challenge.” Tanja Kuchenmüller, Unit Head, Evidence to Policy and Impact, Research for Health Department, WHO.
The joint EVIPNet–RADAAR project, with financial support from the Fleming Fund, will help strengthen the use of AMR data and evidence, with a focus on four countries – Bhutan, Ghana, Kenya, and Lao PDR. The project has three overarching objectives:
- Improve AMR data and evidence analysis, sharing, and use in policy, across the One Health sectors.
- Establish mechanisms to facilitate policy dialogue around AMR.
- Create demand for policy-relevant AMR data and analysis.
The webinar will present the project, providing an overview of the scope and timeline, to key stakeholders, including WHO Regional and Country Offices, Fleming Fund grantees in countries, AMR country counterparts, and representatives from the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on AMR (FAO, UNEP, WHO, WOAH). During the session, the concepts of evidence-informed policymaking and knowledge translation will be introduced alongside the key tools and conceptual components that will be applied in the project.
Participation in this event is by invitation only.
