4th Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance

14 – 16 November 2024
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Amidst the urgent global crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the 4th Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on AMR from 15 – 16 November 2024, in Jeddah.

The event will facilitate the implementation of the commitments outlined in the political declaration approved at the 2024 UNGA High-Level Meeting on AMR.

Discussions will cover topics such as: strengthening global governance, harnessing data for more evidence-based policymaking, sustainable financing and developing capacity across sectors, setting up an independent Panel for Evidence for Action on AMR, preventing AMR, leveraging south-south collaboration and access to affordable antimicrobials.

A non-state actor day of side events will take place on 14 November, looking at public-private partnerships, closing diagnostics gaps for AMR, addressing the antibiotic pipeline failure, the future economic impact of AMR, and lessons learned from COVID-19.

Following the ministerial conference, the Second Annual Plenary Assembly of the AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform will take place on 16 November.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness and understanding of the AMR challenge and the interconnectedness of human, animal, plant and environmental health (One Health Approach).
  • Foster international cooperation and stimulate domestic actions to combat AMR effectively, translating commitments into actions by driving momentum from prior high-level AMR discussions at the UNGA High-Level Meeting on AMR, World Health Assembly, G7, G20 toward practical implementation.
  • Develop country-specific strategies that align with the commitments made in the recent political declaration and relevant global frameworks.
