The World Health Organization (WHO) is pleased to announce the third edition of the Week of Quality for In Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs), a specialised virtual training organised by the Local Production and Assistance (LPA) Unit within the Division of Innovation and Emerging Technologies (IET). Building on the success of previous editions, this year’s programme will focus on strengthening quality and regulatory systems for IVD manufacturing in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Building quality by design: End-to-end strategies for sustainable IVD manufacturing
Taking place from 3 to 5 June 2025, this training aims to enhance participants’ ability to design, validate, and continuously improve in vitro diagnostic products in alignment with international quality standards.
Delivered via Zoom over three consecutive days, the training features two live, expert-led sessions per day (12:00–14:30 CEST), with interactive Q&As, polling, and dedicated engagement opportunities. The sessions are grouped under three thematic pillars:
- Designing with Confidence: Building Quality through Risk-Based Foundations
- Strengthening IVD Performance
- Ensuring Impact: From System Integrity to Real-World Use
Key topics include:
- Quality Starts Here: Building a Strong Foundation for Trusted IVDs
- Risk-Based Design and Early-Stage Quality Planning
- From Lab to Field: Robust Stability Study Testing for Reliable IVDs
- Advancing the Performance of Point-of Care IVDs, specially Rapid Diagnostic Tests
- Validating Quality: Strengthening IVD Performance through Clinical Evidence
- Quality in Practice: Overcoming Real-World Challenges in IVD Use
By the end of the workshop, participants will gain practical insights into embedding quality throughout the IVD lifecycle, from concept to market to implementation, strengthening regulatory preparedness and manufacturing capacity in LMICs.
Whoshould attend?
This training is tailored for:
- IVD manufacturers and quality assurance professionals
- National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) and Ministries of Health
- Technical partners and implementers engaged in diagnostics
Registration deadline: 31 May 2025
Participation is free of charge.
