A Joint Workshop by World Health Organization (WHO) and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore)
Background
The future of food safety and risk assessment is evolving rapidly with the emergence of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). NAMs comprise in silico computational models, in vitro assays, omics technologies, and Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs). These technologies offer more accurate, human-relevant insights into exposure of chemical and biological hazards, while reducing reliance on animal testing.
While NAMs have been established for alternative assessment on chemical and environmental risks, their regulatory integration remains slow and their potential for the emerging novel foods needs to be explored.
Objectives of the Workshop
This workshop aims to:
1) bridge the gaps between scientific innovation and regulatory frameworks
2) foster a global dialogue to advance the adoption and practical implementation of NAMs in chemical safety
3) assess NAMs’ current status and future prospects for novel foods
The workshop, jointly organized by WHO-NTU and supported by Singapore Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH), will take place in person only.
Selection of the participants and presenters
Candidates from national and international organizations, academia and industry with experience on topics related to NAMs are encouraged to apply. A limited number of attendees would be given the opportunity to provide an oral or poster presentation. More information about the selection of attendees and presenters can be found in the document that can be downloaded.
