Date & time:
14–16 October 2025, 14:00-17:00 CESTVenue:
Virtual (zoom webinar) with a minor onsite presence at WHO HQ premises
Background:
The EYE Strategy is a comprehensive, multi-component, and multi-partner initiative aimed at eliminating yellow fever (YF) epidemics globally by the end of 2026. It is anchored on three strategic objectives: Protect at-risk populations, Prevent international spread, and Contain outbreaks rapidly.
Core EYE strategy partners include Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which form the governance and implementation body for EYE along with the World Health Organization (WHO), the host of the EYE Secretariat.
In June 2025, two WHO Information Network for Epidemics (EPI-WIN) webinars focusing on the YF epidemiological situation in the Americas and Africa were held as a prelude to the annual meeting.
Contextual events for consideration:
- The resurgence of YF epidemics in several countries in Latin America in 2024 to early 2025, including in previously unaffected areas.
- Global financial constraints faced by international agencies and national health authorities, mainly due to US funding cuts, impacting both the capacity of countries to prevent/respond to YF and on agencies (e.g., WHO restructuring process, prioritization, and staff reduction).
Main objectives of the meeting:
The meeting will focus on the challenges faced by countries and partners, how to best address them, the overall impact on EYE Strategy implementation and timelines, the transition and sustainability phase, and the way forward in integration with relevant initiatives on the vector, vaccine, urban and occupational components of the programme.
