On World AIDS Day, 1 December 2025, WHO and UNAIDS are co-hosting a joint commemoration event at UNAIDS headquarters in Geneva. The event will follow the launch of UNAIDS World AIDS Day report entitled Overcoming disruptions, transforming the AIDS response. It will show how the disruptions caused by the funding crisis are threatening to unravel decades of progress and will highlight examples of resilience from countries and communities, and make a strong and urgent call for global solidarity.
What, when and where
The event will start at 15:00 with a musical welcome, a World AIDS Day campaign exhibition, and a candle lighting ceremony. It will be followed by high-level panels discussions on the understanding the global context and leadership moment; examining the lived realities of disruptions; and identifying the pathways forward through resilience, community leadership and innovation.
The Geneva event will be livestreamed around the world through zoom and social media platforms. It will be followed by a commemorative walk organized by the Group of people living with HIV in Geneva (PVA Genève).
