Blood donor stories: India

World Blood Donor Day 2021

7 June 2021

Rayan Fernandes, Law Student, 23 years, India

As soon as I turned 18, I donated blood for the first time in my life. I didn't have any clear idea about the procedure or what I was expected to do or in what way I was contributing. But after being a donor once, I have donated blood almost 19 times without any fail.

During my initial visits as a donor, the blood centre doctor and staff did their part in educating me about the shortage of blood and its impact on the needy. This led me to be a regular donor. Being young and in the prime of health, as of now, I make it a point to donate every three months. I intend to donate blood as long as I am healthy.

Also, there is an added advantage to being a donor other than service-mindedness, and that is that you get a regular health screening.

Good health is a gift - moreover, it comes with great responsibility. Hence, I request all of you to participate in blood donation and play an important role in saving lives. The right decision can help us to donate happiness to those in need.
