The 72nd regular session of the United Nations General Assembly will take place from 12 September – 11 December 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA. Heads of states and governments from 193 Member States will convene during the high-level week of the General Debate (18 – 29 September 2017) on the theme: Focusing on people: Striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet.
The WHO delegation will be led by the newly elected WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and will aim to place health at the center of the global political agenda through engaging countries and strengthening partnerships for his priorities, namely:
- Health for all
- Health emergencies
- Women, children and adolescents' health
- The health impacts of climate and environmental health
- A transformed WHO.
