The High-level Political Forum (HLPF), a mechanism that tracks and advances the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, took place at the United Nations (UN) in New York, on 11–20 July 2016.

The forum brought together UN Member States, UN funds and Pprogrammes, specialized agencies, the private sector, academia and civil society to showcase best practices and to discuss challenges and effective mechanisms, including innovative financing, for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted at a UN Summit in September 2015.

WHO Office in at the UN (WUN) facilitated the organization of the WHO co-sponsored side events to highlight this year’s theme “Ensuring that no one is left behind”, on the topics of noncommunicable diseases, nutrition, universal health coverage women and children’s health, neglected tropical diseases and disaster risk reduction.

Dr Nata Menabde, WUN Executive Director, represented WHO and participated in the forum and several of the side events. WHO also partook in the launch of The Global Partnership and Fund to End Violence Against Children and presented “INSPIRE: Seven strategies for Ending Violence Against Children”. The Forum culminated with the launch of the first “Sustainable Development Goals Report” (2016).
