Preparations for the UN High Level Meeting on Tuberculosis have intensified, following the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the resolution “Scope, modalities, format and organization of the high-level meeting on the fight against tuberculosis” last week. Member States in the resolution, decided that the one-day high-level meeting on the fight against TB would be convened by the President of the General Assembly in New York on 22 September 2023. The theme of the meeting is: “Advancing science, finance and innovation, and their benefits, to urgently end the global tuberculosis epidemic, in particular, by ensuring equitable access to prevention, testing, treatment and care.” For more information please access the resolution here.
the President of the UN General Assembly announced that the Multi-stakeholder Hearings on Tuberculosis / Universal Health Care (UHC) / Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response will be held on 8-9 May 2023 at the United Nations in New York. The Hearings will provide an opportunity for all relevant stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing preparatory process for the High-Level Meetings, with a focus on the current state of efforts and top needs to accelerate response.
REGISTRATION OPEN FOR THE MULTI-STAKEHOLDER HEARING ON TB
Registration for the Multi-stakeholder Hearing on Tuberculosis in preparation for the UN General Assembly high-level meeting on TB is now active. Registrants will be asked to identify as either: a representative of an ECOSOC-accredited NGO; or as a relevant stakeholder NOT from an organization in Consultative Status with ECOSOC. Once your registration has been reviewed and approved, you will receive a formal confirmation email, which can be used as a supporting document when applying for your US visa, if you require one. We urge civil society and other relevant stakeholders to apply with urgency to participate in the hearing.
Format: Each of the Multi-stakeholder Hearings will be a half-day event which will take place on 8 - 9 May at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA. Each half-day interactive Hearing will be divided into an opening segment, two interactive panel discussions and a closing segment. The Multi-stakeholder Hearing on TB will feature two panels covering themes aligned with the panels set in the scope and modalities document of the UN High Level Meeting on TB.
Audience: The Hearings will bring together representatives of the Member States, observers of the General Assembly, parliamentarians, representative of local government, relevant UN entities, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, academia, professional associations and the private sector and broader communities. This includes ensuring the participation and voices of women, children, youth and indigenous leadership. The Hearings will be live-streamed.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Stop TB Partnership are supporting the President of the General Assembly in the organization of the hearing.

The World Health Organization is supporting the Office of the President of the General Assembly, and the UN Secretary-General, along with the Stop TB Partnership, WHO Civil Society Taskforce and other key partners in preparing for an impactful high-level meeting and multi-stakeholder hearing.
