In close collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Africa, the Health Service Resilience team within the Integrated Health Services Department at WHO Headquarters convened a four-day workshop to review and pilot the Health Systems Resilience Simulation Exercise Package.

The workshop was held in Harare, Zimbabwe, from the 26th to the 29th of November 2019, with participation from health systems and health emergencies technical teams from WHO HQ, AFRO, Inter-Country Support Teams (IST) and nine WHO country offices. National authorities from nine Ministries of Health (Zimbabwe, Liberia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Tanzania and Kenya); external partners (Public Health England, UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), United States Agency for International Development (USAID)) were present.

This workshop generated momentum to promote an integrated approach to health systems resilience at national and local levels within the region, using simulation exercises as a handy and easily accessible means to strengthen capacity building efforts at all levels.
