Register now to join the second UN High-Level Meeting on TB: Deadline-11 August

There are 8 days left to register for the UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on TB, which will be held on 22 September, 2023 in New York. Heads of State and other leaders will come together to revitalize commitments and actions to accelerate efforts to end TB. This will provide strong impetus to step up progress  in countries against this ancient disease. 

The theme of the meeting is: “Advancing science, finance and innovation, and their benefits, to urgently end the global tuberculosis epidemic, in particular, by ensuring equitable access to prevention, testing, treatment and care.” More information on the planned programme can be found in UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/77/274

To participate in the event, specially accredited organizations must register.

For ECOSOC-accredited organizations, authorized representatives from NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC can register through this portal to participate in the High-Level Meeting.

The deadline to register is 11 August 2023 at 12:00 p.m. [EDT - New York Time]

Registration process: 

·         Each organization will be able to register one representative. If more than one representative is registered under an organization, the UN Secretariat will approve registrations on a first-come, first-served basis. 

·         Registration does not guarantee in-person participation. If your registration is approved, you will receive an approval letter confirming your in-person participation. 

·         Registration approval does not guarantee access to all segments of the High-level meeting. The approval may be limited to the plenary or/and multi-stakeholder panels. 

·         Approved registrants will be notified of their ability to participate in a segment after 15 August 2023. 

Please note that registration is NOT a guarantee to attend the high-level meeting.

Registration applications will be reviewed for completeness by the Office of the President of the General Assembly and those confirmed to attend will be notified by email. This confirmation email can be used as a supporting document for visa applications.

About the UN High Level Meeting on TB:

The UN high-level meeting is aimed to undertake a comprehensive review on the achievement of agreed tuberculosis goals at national, regional and global levels in the 2018 Political Declaration, and to identify gaps and solutions to accelerate progress towards ending the tuberculosis epidemic by 2030.  

In preparation for the high-level meeting, Member States requested the UN Secretary- General, with support of the World Health Organization, to develop a comprehensive and analytical report on progress achieved and challenges remaining in realizing tuberculosis goals within the context of achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including on the progress and implementation of the 2018 political declaration”. The 2023 UN Secretary General Progress Report on TB is now available in all six UN languages here A/78/88.

Format: The high-level meeting will be convened by the President of the General Assembly and held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 22 September 2023 during the Assembly's general debate at its seventy-eighth session. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, and will consist of an opening segment, a plenary segment for general discussion, two multi-stakeholder panels, and a brief closing segment.

Participants: The President of the General Assembly may invite parliamentarians, local governments, the heads or senior representatives of relevant United Nations entities, including the World Health Organization, and international financial institutions, development partners, civil society, populations, and communities vulnerable to tuberculosis, the private sector, academia, medical and scientific associations, Indigenous Peoples, representative organizations of people living with, at risk of and affected by tuberculosis and HIV coinfection, of persons with disabilities and community organizations to serve as speakers on the panels, taking into account gender balance, level of development, geographical representation and the representation of youth and older persons.

Next steps in preparations towards the UN High-Level Meeting on TB

The World Health Organization is supporting the Office of the President of the General Assembly, and the UN Secretary-General, along with the Stop TB Partnership, UNITAID, Global Fund,  and other key partners in preparing for an impactful high-level meeting, as mandated in the United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/77/274.
