It is with heartfelt sadness that we learned of the passing of our colleague and friend, Dr. Madhusudana, on the 2nd December 2015.
Dr. Madhusudana was a professor at the Department of Neurovirology, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences Bangalore, a WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research in Rabies. His involvement in the field of rabies was invaluable, and his departure is a loss to us all.
We remember Dr. Madhusudana not only for his significant contribution in the advancement of the science of rabies, but also for his ever-present devotion and compassion. He lived and breathed “rabies”, with the dream of seeing India become rabies-free within his lifetime. He would always say “rabies is my bread and butter”.
We are all indebted to Dr. Madhusudana for the selflessness and determination that he applied to his work. His research on vaccine trials and into the improvement of rabies case management has been instrumental in furthering our understanding of rabies. It has saved, and continues to save, the lives of countless people. Through this, his legacy will live on.
Dr. Madhusudana’s passing will be felt by many. He will be remembered with admiration and fondness, and we are honoured to have worked alongside him. Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife and family at this time.
