The global Public Private Mix Subgroup for DOTS Expansion (PPM DOTS Subgroup) helps countries to formulate policies and implement strategies to engage all relevant private, voluntary and public providers in the national efforts to control TB. The third meeting of the Subgroup was held in WHO 's Western Pacific Regional Office in Manila, Philippines, on 4-6 April 2005. The proceedings of the meeting have just been published (see link below). The meeting reviewed the rapid progress made on PPM DOTS during the recent years. Over 40 PPM DOTS projects have been launched in over 20 countries. Evaluations show that these initiatives help increase TB case detection, improve treatment outcomes and help reach the poor with quality treatment. The meeting concluded that the PPM DOTS approach need to be applied more widely and discussed barriers and enablers for rapid scale up.
