Dr Henry Wilde
1927–2024
Dr Henry Wilde, MD passed away on 6 June 2024. Known throughout the world as a solid proponent of human rabies prophylaxis and the prevention of this zoonosis in lower- and middle-income countries, he was a member of the WHO Expert Technical Advisory Group on Rabies. Most recently he was one of the members of the SAGE working group on rabies who advised WHO on the update of WHO’s position on rabies immunization. Dr. Wilde worked for many years with the Thai Red Cross Society, Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute, in Bangkok, Thailand.
In addition, he was associated with the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. Over his distinguished career, he authored and coauthored over a hundred publications in high impact, peer-reviewed biomedical publications, including the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Clinical Infectious Diseases, the Journal of Travel Medicine, Lancet, the New England Journal of Medicine, Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Vaccine, and the Bulletin of the World Health Organization, among others.
He will be missed by his family, friends, colleagues and patients for his compassion, dedication, and substantial contributions to medicine, public health, and a more equitable society.
