The Virtual cGMP Training Marathon for Vaccine Manufacturing, organized by WHO, successfully concluded on 11 November after six weeks of intense training.

This is the second training marathon organized for manufacturers, regulators, and government officials. This event focused on current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) for vaccine manufacturing to respond to the demand by Member States for capacity building in local production of quality COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 vaccines to improve timely access.

This training marathon serves to improve the technical knowledge and capacity of participants in understanding and meeting international cGMP standards and reducing the risk of producing poor quality vaccines. Skills in developing and implementing appropriate actions to correct and prevent quality failures and in addressing issues in GMP inspections are also built.

Over 900 manufacturers and regulators from more than 60 countries from all regions attended the workshops on 12 key topics on cGMP for vaccine manufacturing.

What participants had to say:

“Thank you once again for a very successful cGMP Training Marathon for Vaccine Manufacturing session. Big eye opener for all inspectors. More especially those of us from the African Continent where vaccines manufacture is still at its infant stages. The inspector should be ready before the manufacturer starts. And this is one of the vacuums that your esteem and well packaged program is fixing. Indeed, it has been a very enjoyable and beneficial marathon. Made Tuesdays and Thursdays of the past weeks' memorable ones.”- Issah Abdul-Samad, Principal Regulatory Officer, Ghana FDA, Ghana

“I want to thank WHO for this excellent opportunity that it has given us. Each and every one of the conferences were master classes.”- Carmen Acosta Bas., Manager Regulatory Affairs, Instituto Latinoamericano de Biotecnología MECHNIKOV, S.A, Nicaragua

“Let me congratulate you on the successful hosting and completion of the marathon cGMP training. It was eye opening, and I can assure you that I now have a lot new perspectives and understanding with regards to CGMP requirements for vaccine manufacture.”- Samson Fatoki, Assistant Director, Drug Evaluation and Research Directorate, NAFDAC, Nigeria

“I really appreciate the efforts made by WHO to upgrade our knowledge through these sessions. This is very valuable for all of us who are engaging for pharmaceutical industry. Wish you and your team to have all the blessings to continue the good work towards the entire world.”- Nirmalanthi Silva, AGM – Production Operations, Astron Limited, Sri Lanka

This is to express my profound gratitude to WHO (LPA) Unit for such a wonderful educative programme. Please, keep doing more of that to help us improve our lot.”- Samuel K.
