WHO and ILO have submitted a proposal for an additional SDG indicator to the United Nations Member States that are currently members of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators. The proposal is to add an indicator on the number of deaths from work-related diseases to the SDG indicator system, ideally as early as in the 2020 Comprehensive Review of the system. The proposed potential indicator could complement SDG Indicator 8.8.1 on the frequency of fatal and non-fatal occupational injuries. If of interest to Member States and the Inter-Agency and Expert Group, WHO and ILO can readily produce this indicator from the WHO/ILO Joint Estimates.
