The Local Production & Assistance Unit (LPA), with financial support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), is once again organizing the upcoming fourth “Virtual cGMP Training Marathon for Vaccine Manufacturing: Principles into Practice” to support Member States in strengthening capacity for quality local production to improve timely, equitable access and bridge gaps learned from Covid-19 pandemic, should the next pandemic erupt tomorrow.
Low or Middle-Income Counties (LMICs) are increasingly viewing local production as a strategic approach to overcome lack of access to vaccines, achieve universal health coverage, enhance health security, and advance in health-related targets within the SDGs. To prepare manufacturers in LMICs to produce quality-assured vaccines, the WHO LPA Unit has successfully conducted three Virtual cGMP Training Marathons annually since 2020 with progressively in-depth and advanced concepts in cGMP for quality manufacturing.
Building on this, the upcoming Virtual cGMP Training Marathon for Vaccine Manufacturing: Principles into Practice from 12 Sep to 10 Oct this year will continue to provide manufacturers & regulators with a comprehensive array of topics to build understanding of current WHO & international GMP standards, technological advancements, industry practices and regulatory expectations specific to the vaccine manufacturing context. Some of the topics include computer system validation, data integrity, challenges in lyophilization and others. Real world examples and case studies will be used to show how to interpret current and recently new GMP requirements from a practical point of view and to implement appropriate approaches.
All technical personnel who are involved in the development, manufacturing, distribution and assessment of vaccines are encouraged to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to enhance their knowledge and expertise in cGMP principles and vaccine manufacturing practices.
