The World Health Organization commends the Government of Canada for their ongoing strong commitment to ending TB through a new 5-year award of CA$85 million to the Stop TB Partnership's TB REACH initiative. The award was announced yesterday by the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Canada’s Minister of International Development and La Francophonie. Additional support was also announced for TB REACH from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and from the Indonesia Health Fund.

The TB REACH initiative provides grants to country partners for testing innovative strategies and technologies aimed at increasing the number of people diagnosed and treated for TB, decreasing the time to appropriate treatment and improving treatment success rates.

Dr Mario Raviglione, Director of the WHO Global TB Programme confirms that “At WHO we will encourage Ministries of Health and their partners to apply for innovative projects under TB REACH. We also stand ready to ensure that relevant evidence generated from supported projects helps inform future policy development, and that scalable successes are promoted for expansion.”
