The European Virus Archive is a non-profit organization consisting of a network of 25 laboratories, representing a range of virological disciplines, with close collaborations with international organizations involved in health, including WHO, OIE and FAO.

The organization, funded by the European Union, provides a global network to facilitate the exchange of viral materials and promotes research synergies among the international scientific community. With more than 2200 viruses and derived products available in its catalogue, the platform provides an essential and innovative resource for laboratories that meet approved ethical, safety and security standards.

The exchange of viral material and expertise strengthens global viral research and contributes to epidemic/pandemic preparedness and response as well as the ongoing development of new tools for disease control. The Archive provides improved access to virological materials.
