$4 million is to be invested in TB and malaria programmes over 12 months under a memorandum of agreement signed by the WHO Representative to Myanmar, Pr Adik Wibowo, with the Three Diseases Fund (3DF).

The funding will support activities that target vulnerable and under-served population groups, and those at risk from TB, HIV/AIDS and malaria. Populations living in remote and inaccessible areas are priority target groups. WHO has agreed to establish a mechanism to administer and monitor the decentralized disbursement, directly to local implementers at the township level.

3DF, supported by Australia, the European Commission, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom, has superseded the Fund for HIV/AIDS in Myanmar, and filled urgent needs following the withdrawal of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
