30 May 2019: At the World Health Assembly, Member States passed a resolution that recognized the contributions of community health workers in providing primary care services and advancing universal health coverage. The resolution took note of the WHO Guideline on health policy and system support to optimize community health worker programmes.
WHO, with the 18 000-member HIFA (Health Information for All) network and Health Systems Global, will conduct an 18-month consultation to support dissemination and uptake of the CHW Guideline. HIFA, the CHW thematic working group and key organisations like Frontline Health Project will conduct a series of three thematic discussions on community health workers.
On 1 June, HIFA will launch the first discussion, focused on selection, training and certification of CHWs. Participants can join on the main HIFA (English) forum, as well as on HIFA-French, HIFA-Portuguese, HIFA-Spanish, and CHIFA (child health). The moderated discussions will take place over a period of six weeks each, using an online web forum led by the HIFA working group on Community Health Workers.
Join HIFA today to participate.
HIFA encourages members to use the forum to share new research, reports, news, events and services relevant to CHWs, to maintain discussion throughout the period. HIFA is a global social movement to improve the availability and use of healthcare information in low- and middle-income countries. Members include health workers, librarians, publishers, researchers, policymakers and others who are committed to the progressive realisation of a world where every person has access to the healthcare information they need to protect their own health and the health of others.
