Measles campaign kicks off

Hundreds of Paranaque residents trooped to the Paranaque Sports Complex last April 4 to witnessed the launch of 'Ligtas sa Tigdas ang Pinas' campaign of the Department of Health. The campaign was led by DOH Secretary Enrique T. Ona, NEC Director Eric Tayag, WHO Representative Dr Soe Nyunt-U , Paranaque Mayor Jun Bernabe and participated in by USAID.

The campaign targets about 18 million children nine months to below 8 years old.

"It is an honour for Paranaque to be the host city for the launching of the campaign . We support this DOH-WHO-UNICEF-USAID-LGU health campaign and look forward to the realization of the goal of eliminating measles in the Philippines by 2012,” Mayor Bernabe said.

Dr Soe Nyunt-U, Mayor Bernabe, Secretary Ona, Dr John Ehrenberg and P & G Product Manager.

“The main objective of the campaign is to reduce the number of susceptible children that have piled up since we last conducted a nationwide campaign last 2004,” said Secretary Ona, adding that " vaccination is the best way to prevent Measles and German measles."
