Walk the Talk Manila: The Health for All Challenge

This 15 September 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines will stage its first Walk the Talk in Manila as part of the global Health for All Challenge.

The event will involve running, walking, biking or wheel (non-motorized) in different distances. It will be non-competitive, open to all ages and free of charge.

Walk the Talk Manila will highlight universal health coverage (UHC) while promoting a healthy lifestyle, a week before the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the High-level Meeting (HLM) on UHC in New York.

The global movement for Health for All

The Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge is a global movement launched by WHO in 2018 to:
  • Promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Advocate for the importance of health for all.
  • Connect international and local health and development organizations with the broader public in a celebration of health.

The 2019 event in Geneva was held on 19 May 2019 while the New York leg will be happening on 22 September 2019, on the eve of the 74th UNGA and the HLM on UHC.

Key information for participants

  • Walk the Talk Manila is a free physical activity event for all.
  • The event is scheduled to start at 7am and end by 10am on Sunday 15 September. It will be held at Pacific Rim, Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa.
  • It is inclusive and open to all ages and abilities, with accessible routes to enable participation of as many people as possible.
  • The event categories are 10 kilometre run, walk, wheel (non-motorized) or bike, 5 kilometre run, walk, or wheel (non-motorized), and 3 kilometre run, walk, or wheel (non-motorized).
  • A free race kit will be available for the participants, which will contain a race bib and event shirt. Kindly bring a valid ID to claim your race kit starting 4am on the event day.
  • Please ensure that you are physically healthy and prepared for the activities being offered during the event that you choose to participate in, ranging from the warm-up activity, walking, running, biking or wheel (non-motorized). By registering for this event, you warrant that you have medical clearance and are physically able to participate in the event you have chosen with the least risk possible to yourself.
  • Participants should take note of weather forecasts.
  • Drinking water will be available from water stations along the route. Please bring your own water bottle to minimize the trash generated by this event.
  • Routes will be clearly marked, but participants should approach any of the marshals if you have questions.
  • Emergency medical services will be on standby for any untoward incidents.
  • By participating in this public event, you consent to your image being taken (through film, photograph, or other media) and used by WHO for publicity and communications purposes.
