WHO Philippines today congratulates returning peacekeepers and thanks them for their support to the people of Liberia.

The WHO guidance on the return of people arriving from an Ebola affected country is outlined below.

WHO does not recommend general bans on travel or trade or general quarantine of travellers arriving from an Ebola affected country.

People are not infectious until they develop symptoms: people who are not symptomatic (sick) are not infectious and do not need to be confined or their personal possessions disinfected. Ebola symptoms include but are not exclusively the following: fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches, body pain, bleeding and unexplained bruising.

WHO would remind anyone returning from an Ebola affected country to inform the quarantine medical officer on duty at the airport and monitor their health for 21 days.

There is a high incidence of malaria in the most affected Ebola countries: anyone developing a fever must be immediately treated for malaria even without a diagnostic test.
