Overview
This training course is designed for health workers who are responsible for detecting and managing patients with TB. These workers may include health assistants, medical assistants, nurses, clinical assistants, clinicians or physicians. Some may be private practitioners. Health workers may be male or female.
The course is intended mainly for staff with access to sputum smear microscopy for TB but limited or no availability of other diagnostic resources such as X-rays, pathology, culture and drug susceptibility testing (DST) for M. tuberculosis. These resources may be accessible by referral to a second-level health facility.
