Overview
The present volume deals specifically with drinking-water supplies for small communities, and particularly those in rural areas, with the main emphasis on the microbiological quality of such supplies. It contains information on sanitary inspections, the collection of water samples, simple methods for bacteriological analysis, and methods for determining residual chlorine, suitable for use in rural areas, which take account of the difficulties likely to be faced in the field. It also covers the remedial and preventive measures necessary if water quality is to be maintained, and the community participation which is essential in combating waterborne enteric disease.
