An overview of infodemic management during COVID-19, January 2020–May 2021

Overview
This overview summarizes the work done on managing the COVID-19 infodemic since early 2020 into the first quarter of 2021.
The pandemic of COVID-19 has been accompanied by a massive “infodemic”. An infodemic, simply put, is an overabundance of information. No epidemic can be overcome without the meaningful engagement of the communities it affects. That is why in early 2020, WHO advanced the field of infodemiology and the practice of infodemic management to work together with partners, stakeholders and the WHO information network for epidemics.
Infodemic management is driven by the use of
evidence-based interventions and anchored in the principles of community
involvement, for a comprehensive emergency response that will prepare
the world to better manage infodemics in future.
