Technical consultation to review the ACTwatch Lite survey methodology

Meeting report, Geneva, Switzerland, 30 June–1 July 2025

Overview

ACTwatch Lite is a streamlined private-sector malaria market study designed to generate timely, actionable data on the availability, price and sales volumes of antimalarial medicines and rapid diagnostic tests at both retail and wholesale levels. It offers a rapid, standardized, and replicable approach for private-sector surveillance of malaria commodities. Piloted in Benin, Cameroon and Nigeria between 2023 and 2024, the methodology was documented by Population Services International (PSI) in a toolkit to guide future country-led implementation. A meeting held in Geneva from 30 June to 1 July 2025 brought together technical experts and representatives from WHO, PSI, the Gates Foundation, the Global Fund, national malaria programmes from Benin, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria, as well as academic and implementing partners, to review and refine the toolkit. The ACTwatch Lite toolkit is made available to national malaria programmes, donors and implementing partners to strengthen private-sector engagement and improve malaria case management.
