Timely, accurate and complete data on causes of death provide essential information for quantifying the size of the problem and for the development of suicide prevention strategies, in terms of priority setting, public health practice, research, and evaluation of interventions and policy changes. This resource aims to strengthen the death certification and coding for suicides. It is primarily intended for professionals involved in certifying deaths and for mortality coders, but it may also be useful for other professionals involved in the process of investigating and certifying deaths due to suicide, including police officers, forensic doctors, coroners, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and statisticians.
