Global Breast Cancer Initiative training manual: package for breast cancer programme managers

Overview

The Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI) Training Manual is a derivative product of the Global Breast Cancer Initiative Implementation Framework (2023) and a practical reference resource designed to strengthen the foundational knowledge and skills of policymakers, programme and facility managers, health care professionals and implementing partners involved in breast cancer control. It supports the adoption and adaptation of the GBCI through a health-system-wide approach and provides guidance for working towards the 60:60:80 targets by 2040.

The manual covers health promotion and breast health awareness, risk reduction, early detection and screening readiness, timely diagnosis and multimodality treatment, essential health products and technologies, multidisciplinary team-based care and patient navigation. It provides practical strategies for integrating breast cancer services into national health planning, health benefit packages and existing programmes, and addresses data-driven decision-making, monitoring and evaluation, continuous quality improvement and programme sustainability.
