Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) global survey report

Overview

Since the launch of Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) in the mid-1990s, evidence of effective interventions, delivery approaches and technologies to increase access and coverage of essential child health interventions has evolved rapidly. Countries’ epidemiological profiles have also been changing over time, especially with the decrease in under-five mortality rates.

WHO has conducted a global assessment of IMCI implementation and situation analysis to provide strategic directions on how to achieve the ambitious goal of ending preventable newborn and child mortality and promoting child health and development. As part of this process, an IMCI Global Implementation Survey was carried out among WHO Member States in April-June 2016 to understand current implementation status, challenges, strengths, and evolution of IMCI.
