Roadmap for Implementation of Health Promoting Schools in the South-East Asia Region, 2022

Overview

A health-promoting school is a school that consistently strengthens its capacity as a safe and healthy setting for teaching, learning and working. It is a school that fosters collaboration between teachers, staff
and parents with the aim of building a health-enabling environment that promotes life-long health and well-being, not only in schools but also in homes and the community. In 2021, WHO and UNESCO issued
global standards and implementation guidelines on how to build health promoting schools, highlighting a series of evidence-based tools that can be implemented at very little cost.

This Roadmap for Implementation of health-promoting schools in the South-East Asia Region was drafted during the Inter-Ministerial Meeting held in Oct 2021. This contains inputs from Member States and it aims at facilitating the health-promoting school agenda. It includes key actions, timeframes and indicators, which are laid out according to country contexts, and with reference to global standards and implementation guidance. It is essential that all sectors – particularly health and education – to join together to implement the Roadmap, because this generation must be the first of many generations to experience health and well-being for all at all ages, and access for all to inclusive, equitable and quality education.
