Health inequities in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: selected country case studies

Overview

This report aims to assess the extent of health inequities within and across countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region. It identifies the major factors contributing to these inequities and considers policy implications for countries as a result of the analysis. Analysis is limited to data on health outcomes from six countries representing a wide range of social and economic status – Djibouti, Lebanon, Morocco, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia and Yemen. The study also analyses the role of changes in the health system in contributing to widening or narrowing health inequalities and highlights the contribution to health inequities of factors outside the health sector
