Annual Report 2024

WCO Bhutan

Overview

The year 2024 was a watershed moment in Bhutan’s public health journey. Foremost among the accomplishments was the National Health Survey (NHS)—a single, consolidated study that integrated 14 standalone health-related surveys, providing an unprecedented, holistic view of Bhutan’s health landscape. Notably, the NHS highlighted the alarming rise in noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), reinforcing the need for integrated responses.

In line with SDG 3 (ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all), WHO supported the Ministry of Health in conducting a nationwide NCD screening campaign aimed at identifying individuals at risk for hypertension and diabetes, and offering clinical or behavioral interventions.
